malware threats

In today’s digital world, it’s more important than ever to stay on your guard against malware and cyber threats that can harm your business and even provide unauthorized access to your personal information.

Recent reports have revealed a troubling new trend, where scammers use fake job ads on social media platforms like Facebook to trick people into downloading harmful software. This underscores the need for strong cybersecurity and reliable IT services.

According to Trustwave SpiderLabs, cybercriminals are behind these fake job postings, posing as reliable companies. These ads often promise digital advertising jobs, but actually contain malicious links that install a dangerous program called Ov3r_Stealer.

This malware threat can steal sensitive information like passwords and cryptocurrency wallets, which puts individuals and businesses at risk.

The attack starts with fake PDFs hosted on OneDrive, which prompt users to click an “Access Document” button. Clicking this button leads to internet shortcut (.URL) files that pretend to be DocuSign documents hosted on Discord’s content delivery network. Then, a control panel item is run, downloading a Powershell loader from GitHub, which installs Ov3r_Stealer.

We can’t stress enough the importance of exercising caution and adopting proactive measures, partnering with trusted experts in IT services and cybersecurity.

Speros offers a comprehensive suite of services that are tailored to meet the unique needs of businesses, including robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard your data, networks, and systems against malware threats.

By partnering with a cybersecurity and IT services provider, businesses can proactively mitigate risks and bolster defenses against evolving malware threats. Additionally, keeping your staff informed about current cybersecurity risks and encouraging cybersecurity awareness among employees is a must.

We always recommend educating your staff about the dangers of clicking on suspicious links, and providing regular training on cybersecurity best practices. This can significantly reduce the likelihood of falling victim to such attacks.

Protecting your business from cyber threats requires a multifaceted approach, which encompasses cybersecurity measures, reliable IT services, and employee education.

Although awareness of the current Ov3r_Stealer threat will help you to avoid it, cybersecurity threats are always evolving. Getting cybersecurity measures in place today will help you to avoid the next major threat to your company’s sensitive information.

If you’d like to get more information about how to keep your business safe against cybersecurity threats, please give us a call or reach out today.

Reviews

"Great staff! immediately responsive to our urgent repair requests. They were meticulous in diagnosing our issues and made the repairs as quickly as they could. They are a pleasure to work with! Speros provided emergency repair service during a weekend when our cabling suffered accidental damage. Speros dispatched two technicians that worked tirelessly to restore the multiple severed fiber cables.  It was not long before the entire campus was back to normal.  It was exceptional and timely service by Speros."

"Speros has been our law firm's primary internet service provider for 10+ years. Rarely do I need to ask for a service work order because they are on top of regular maintenance. Recently, I was getting requests to reboot following critical software updates...so, asked to set reboots to be automatic after midnight, so it did not disrupt our workdays. Within 30 minutes of my request, it was done. THAT is good service. THANK YOU, SPEROS Team."

They communicated with our existing software/hardware management company and made it out to work on our network quickly on short notice, and had the whole issue solved in very little time. Will use this business again for our network needs. The tech that came out was amazingly easy to work with and was respectful of our hospitals covid-19 policies."
